Liiiiife Extending.
An oft returned-to talking point of Marty’s over the last couple of years was that writing is life extending. It never turned out to be much of a conversation starter because, how could you argue? At 93, he published the first of what he planned as a trilogy about an undying author typing his way through time.
At 93 he planned a trilogy? This is repeated only to point out the obvious, Marty both believed and embodied his notions on writing and longevity. With the publishing of Book 2 in the trilogy, Return of The Secret Viking (Crowsnest Books, 2024), two-thirds of his trilogy dream are in print, in the ether, available for download… Don’t mistake this for a commercial message, this is not a call to action. But it is a lead-in.
Two-thirds of a trilogy is not what Marty planned. Nor, is it what he delivered. So as not to leave you in suspense, just weeks before he would leave us, Marty made sure he would not leave us hanging.
Yes, said trilogy’s third-third is in hand. (M would have something to say about a third-in-the-hand that we can’t quite achieve.)
